February 2019
Hello ya'll, happy February! As a classroom community, we are working hard to clean our space up appropriately. In this learning endeavor, we have been using baby wipes to clean our space. We are in need of more baby wipes to continue this cleaning journey. If possible, please send your student in with at least one pack of baby wipes. Thank you!
January 2019
Hello everyone, have a nice three-day weekend! I will be out of the building at a training on Thursday, January 24th. If you have any questions or transportation changes, please notify the office.
Welcome back families!
We had an awesome first week back in the classroom. This week we focused on penguins, snap words, classroom routines and expectations. Thank you to all that have been using Seesaw as a communication tool. The messaging aspect is fantastic, and I encourage everyone to send videos of your student reading or engaging in fun activities while outside of the classroom. Have a nice weekend!

The Jog-a-Thon is Friday, October 5th. You were sent home a small folder which explains the donation process. Please keep this folder until after the Jog-a-Thon has occurred. People will pledge to donate a certain amount based on the number of laps your student will run. Please send your student in activewear.
Elmonica Jog-A-Thon
Fundraising System
For our Jog-A-Thon this year, we're using an awesome web based fundraising system that makes it much easier for you to request pledges from your family and friends, and for them to make secure credit card donations online. It's fun, it's easy, and people who use it typically raise twice as much as those who don't!
Remember, our Jog-A-Thon is October 5, so please register now to help our school raise as much as we can for Elmonica Family Assistance Fund, Field Trips & Classroom Resources:
Call 1-888-598-7510 if you need help.
Picture Day
Picture Day is Friday, October 12th. The photo form that was sent home explains the options for ordering. If you would like to order photos, please send the form back with money included. I will hold onto them for you! Send your student wearing something that will make for an adorable memory. This will occur at school.
August 2018
Dear Elmonica Family,
Snack & Water Bottle- We will have a snack every day. Please bring a healthy and easy to eat snack; e.g. crackers, apple, grapes, banana, carrots, dried fruit, or sandwich. Please do not bring canned fruit with liquid (too sticky). Some of our classmates have nut allergies, so no nuts for snack (lunch is okay). Please bring a water bottle if your child likes to drink a lot of water. It must have a straw or a sport cap that does not spill easily. Water bottles will stay in backpacks or cubbies.
Homework
o Current research on homework suggests that it should foster a positive attitude toward school, teach students to be responsible (unloading backpack each night and giving notes to teacher in the morning), and teach students that learning takes place at home as well as school.
o Our homework will vary throughout the year. In September we will have a reading log and an occasional family project.
o We will also post Friday Questions on our website for you to have a conversation with your child about their week at school.
Early Release- Early release will begin the second week of school on Wednesday's. Elementary students will be released at 1:30 pm each Wednesday. Teachers will use this valuable time collaborate and improve your child’s educational experience. We are extremely excited to have this dedicated time to work as a team! As a working parent of four children in the Beaverton District I understand the inconvenience of the schedule; however, the added student contact days, predictable schedule, and time to plan and enhance the educational experience greatly outweigh the scheduling inconvenience! Please come and talk to me if you have any concerns or questions.
Specials– Each week we will have Spanish, Library, Technology, P.E., and Music. The class website will be updated with our special schedule so your child can wear the proper shoes for PE and return their library book on time.
Day 1: Technology/Spanish
Day 2: Music
Day 3: P.E.
Day 4: Spanish/Technology
Day 5: Music
Day 6: P.E.
Recess– We will have recess everyday- rain or shine! Please be sure to dress your child appropriately to run and play on the playground. Our playground can be cold, so please always bring a coat.
Volunteers- All Beaverton volunteers must complete a background check and the West TV volunteer orientation. If you have already completed both, I’d love to hear from you! Weekly, bi-weekly, and monthly classroom shifts are available. I’d love to know if you prefer working with kids and/or working on projects. If you’re not able to help in the classroom, I occasionally have home projects (cutting/folding/preparing/play dough making). Small children are not allowed in the classroom (but I am okay with very small babies). Let me know if you can help!
Dismissal- Please let me know each day IN WRITING if there is a change in your child’s school dismissal. It is sometimes difficult for me to check email during the day, so try to send communications before lunch and always send a copy to Mrs. Warmflash as well. Her email is evelyn_warmflash@beaverton.k12.or.us. You can also notify Angela Mendel at [email protected]. It is a huge distraction to call at the end of the day with changes in transportation. I understand that SOMETIMES it is unavoidable, but please do not make this a habit! Thanks for your help with this!
It is very important for me to know how your child is doing in class. Is she having a great time? Making friends? Is she stressed out? Is he scared to go to the bathroom? Did he say something hilarious and you want to share? Please send me an email and let me know! I will spend a lot of time with your child, so no comment or question is too big or too small!
Sincerely,
Cassidy Zusman
